Product specific extra requirements

Processing, Packaging and Handling

The extra requirements for processed food products are in standard 16.9.2 of the KRAV Standards. For multi-ingredient products, ensure that the additional requirements are complied with for each of the ingredients by using the checklists for the primary products. If additives are used they must be in accordance with the list of additives in Appendix 2 of the KRAV Standards. Some additives permitted according to (EU) 848/2018 are prohibited.

Slaughter

In order for meat products to be KRAV-certified, production of the meat must also comply with the other relevant standards in section 16.8.

Primary Production

  1. Crop Products (other than greenhouse products, sprouts or mushroom production) and Honey
    There are no extra requirements except for those that are required for all products.

  2. Sprouts, Greenhouse Products, Mushrooms and Christmas Trees
    In the KRAV Standards the extra requirements for greenhouse products are in standard 16.7.3, for sprouts in standard 16.7.2, and for mushroom cultivation in standard 16.7.6.
    There are currently no certification systems other than the KRAV Standards that comply with the extra requirements for greenhouse products, sprouts or mushroom production.

  3. Wild Harvest Production
    The extra requirements for wild harvest production are in standard 16.7.5 of the KRAV Standards.

  4. Dairy Products

  5. Eggs and Egg Products
    The extra requirements for eggs and egg products are in standard 16.8.3 of the KRAV Standards.

  6. Beef and Beef Products
    The extra requirements for beef products are in standards 16.8.4 and 16.8.5 of the KRAV Standards.
    There are currently no certification systems other than the KRAV Standards that comply with the extra requirements for beef and beef products.

  7. Sheep and Goat Meat
    The extra requirements for sheep and goat meat are in standards 16.8.4 and 16.8.6 of the KRAV Standards.
    There are currently no certification systems other than the KRAV Standards that comply with the extra requirements for meat from sheep and goats.

  8. Pork and Pork Products

  9. Chicken Meat from Laying Hens
    The extra requirements for pork products are in standards  16.8.4 and 16.8.8 of the KRAV Standards.

  10.  Aquaculture
    Giant prawns, i.e. large tropical prawns (e.g. scampi) cannot be KRAV-labelled, regardless of any certification (see standard 16.9.1 in the KRAV Standards). Other products from aquaculture certified according to the EU regulation can be KRAV-labelled if they comply with the extra requirements for all products.

    The extra requirements for products certified according to the National Organic Program of the United States Department of Agriculture (NOP) are in section 16.10 of the KRAV Standards.
